Profile of Dr. Victor Okolobah – Ag. Rector, FPOGB.
Dr. Victor A. Okolobah was born on 23rd August, 1969 in the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Late Rtd Capt Micheal Okolobah of the Nigerian Army & Late Mrs Mercy Okolobah. He hails from Egbo-Ideh town of Ugheli-South Local Government Area in Delta State.
The young Victor has a history of having attended many primary schools as transfers took his father who was of the Nigerian Army to several places. When his father was eventually posted to Minna, Niger State, the young Okolobah was then enrolled into the Army Day secondary School, Minna, where he came out in flying colours.
For his quest for education, the young Okolobah headed to Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru and was admitted to study statistics at ND level and graduated with an Upper Credit and the overall best graduating student. In continuation of his academic journey, Dr Okolobah got enrolled for his HND program in statistics at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida and came out in 1995 with Upper credit and again graduated as the best student in his set.
Owing to his excellent display of mastery of the course of study, he was immediately employed into the services of the Polytechnic under the Rector’s appointment programme for best graduating student in each Department. An appointment he picked up immediately he completed his one year national youth service corp program as a Higher Instructor in 1997. Dr Okolobah grew through the ranks and attained the zenith of his career as a Chief Lecturer in January, 2017.
As a young man with insatiable quest for education, the young Victor after his employment as a Higher Instructor, proceeded to University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he bagged his PGD in 2001 and Msc in 2004. Not yet done, Dr Okolobah headed for his PhD program to Malaysia in 2011 and by mid 2014, he came out strong with a bias in mathematics statistics.
On return from Malaysia, Dr. Okolobah became a sought after young man who has prepared himself for both administrative and other higher assignments, hence, he was immediately appointed Head, Department of Statistics at the Federal Polytechnic Bida. On completion of this assignment with excellent remarks from the then Rector, he was immediately appointed the Director, Industrial Placement Unit of the Institution; an office he held till 2023. While serving in this capacity, Dr Okolobah was nominated at the National Delegates Conference of the Alumni Association of The Federal Polytechnic Bida to represent them in the Governing Council of the Institution. As usual, Dr Okolobah who has a knack for result and excellence, proved his worth while in the council.
At about 6 months, Dr Okolobah left office as Director, Industrial Placement Unit (IPU), Federal Polytechnic Bida. He sought for an opportunity as a sabbatical staff here in Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas Bonny to deploy his wealth of experience in the growth and development of this institution; a request that was immediately granted. Barely three months of assumption of duty, and upon excellent display of administrative prowess, Dr Okolobah was appointed the Acting Deputy Rector (academics) on February 29th 2024; a position he held until April 19th when the Hon. Minister of Education found in him a capable hand and was hence appointed the Acting Rector, FPOG.
Dr Victor Okolobah who is married to Mrs. Stella Okolobah. The marriage is blessed with 3 children (2boys and a girl).
